Prestonsburg Lady Blackcats hold on to beat Betsy Layne in 58th District clash

The Prestonsburg Lady Blackcats traveled to Betsy Layne on Friday night for another hard-fought 58th District battle. In a defensive struggle early, Prestonsburg held a slim 8–6 lead after one quarter behind four first-quarter points from Allison Howard.

As the second quarter got underway, both teams found a little more rhythm offensively, with Prestonsburg again edging the Ladycats 13–12 to take a 21–18 advantage into halftime. Betsy Layne showed balance in the opening half as six players scored, led by Amaria Anderson’s team-high six first-half points. Howard continued to pace Prestonsburg with eight points in the half.

The back-and-forth battle continued after the break. Shay Music provided a spark in the third quarter, connecting on two three-point baskets as the teams played even through the period. Prestonsburg once again found a way to extend its lead in the fourth quarter, making enough plays down the stretch to secure a 39–35 district victory.

Allison Howard led the Lady Blackcats in with 13 points and 12 rebounds on her way to earning Surplus Products Player of the Game honors.
