Letcher County Central High School’s Garrett Howard closed out his senior year by cementing his legacy as one of the most productive and dependable athletes to ever wear a Cougar uniform. A standout on both sides of the ball, Howard delivered a season—and a career—that will be remembered in Letcher County sports history.
Dominant Senior Season
Howard’s final campaign showcased his versatility, power, and relentless motor. Defensively, he racked up an impressive 131 tackles, once again proving himself as the backbone of the Cougar defense. His instincts, physicality, and leadership made him a constant presence around the football and a nightmare for opposing offenses.
On the offensive side, Howard was just as impactful. Carrying the ball 135 times, he amassed 1,152 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns, providing Letcher Central with consistent production and a reliable playmaker in critical moments. His ability to break tackles, extend plays, and finish runs made him one of the region’s most valuable two-way contributors.
Continuation of Successful Career
While his senior statistics were impressive on their own, Howard also achieved a career milestone that solidifies his place in program history. With 408 career tackles, he is among one of the best to dawn the Cougar uniform. Howard has had 3 seasons with over 100 tackles, 2025-341, 2024 – 124, 2023 – 100 and 2022-53. Numbers like this are not only a testament to his skill, but to his durability, preparation, and commitment over four years of varsity football.
A Leader On and Off the Field
As he now looks toward the future, Garrett Howard leaves behind a legacy defined by toughness and production. His name is firmly etched into the record books, and his impact on Letcher County Central football will be felt for years to come.
