The Pike Central Lady Hawks earned an important district victory Tuesday night, defeating Phelps by a final score of 55–41 behind a balanced team effort and strong performances from their leaders.
Pike Central controlled the tempo for most of the night, shooting efficiently from the field and capitalizing at the free-throw line. The Lady Hawks finished the game shooting 46.3% overall, while limiting Phelps to 26.1% shooting.
Gracie Ratliff led Pike Central with a double-double, scoring 16 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Ratliff was aggressive on both ends of the floor, attacking the basket and anchoring the defense inside.
Senior Larah Stanley delivered an all-around performance, finishing with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 5 steals, and 6 assists. Stanley’s defensive pressure and court vision helped Pike Central create scoring opportunities and maintain momentum throughout the game.
Other contributors for the Lady Hawks included Kamryn Akers and Jadyn Looney, who each added 6 points, while Kenzi Lyons shot a perfect 2-for-2 from the field.
Phelps was led by Caleigh McCoy, who finished with a game-high 22 points, but Pike Central’s defense forced difficult shots and limited second-chance opportunities throughout the night.
With the win, Pike Central improves its position in district play and continues to build confidence heading into the next stretch of the season.
The win moves the Lady Hawks to 4-7 on the season and 1-0 in district play. The Lady Hawks are back in action on Monday as they host district rival Belfry. As for Phelps, the loss drops them to 5-6 and 0-1 in district play. The Lady Hornets will participate in the All A Classic on Saturday as they take on the Ladycats of Shelby Valley.
