Shelby Valley Diner Boys Top 5

This week’s Shelby Valley Diner Boys Top 5 saw some movement following tournament play across the region.

1) Pikeville Panthers (NC)

The Panthers remain firmly in the top spot this week. Pikeville traveled to Florida and went 2–1, with their only loss coming against University Christian (Jacksonville). Back home, the Panthers opened regional play with a dominant 31-point win over East Ridge, improving their record to 10–1. As All “A” action continues next week, we’ll learn even more about this Pikeville squad.

2) Martin County Cardinals (NC)

Martin County holds steady at No. 2 while continuing to play one of the toughest schedules in the area. The Cardinals went 1–2 at the Arby’s Classic in Virginia. All eyes now turn to Tuesday’s highly anticipated All “A” matchup with Paintsville.

3) Johnson Central Golden Eagles (+1)

Johnson Central climbs one spot this week after capturing the Mountain Schoolboy Classic in Belfry. The Golden Eagles went a perfect 4–0 on the week, highlighted by an in-region win over Shelby Valley. JC will look to keep momentum rolling as they enter 2A Tournament play.

4) Paintsville Tigers (–1)

Paintsville slides one spot to No. 4 despite an undefeated week. The Tigers went 2–0 on the road with impressive wins over West Jessamine and Prestonsburg. Tuesday’s All “A” clash with Martin County will be a key test.

5) Floyd Central Jaguars (+1)

Breaking back into the Top 5 this week are the Floyd Central Jaguars. Floyd Central put together an impressive showing by winning the Powell Valley National Bank Tournament at UVA Wise.


Next Up

Shelby Valley (NC)
Shelby Valley went 4–1 on the week, with their only loss coming in a close contest against Johnson Central. The Wildcats remain right on the doorstep of cracking the Top 5 for the second straight week.

Lawrence County (NC)
The Bulldogs sit just outside the Top 5 following a 1–2 showing at the Ashland Invitational Tournament. Make no mistake—Lawrence County remains a dangerous team heading into 2A Tournament play.

Belfry Pirates (–)
Belfry drops out of the Top 5 after going 1–2 at the Mountain Schoolboy Classic. The Pirates will look to bounce back quickly as they open All “A” play Monday against Betsy Layne.

As teams settle into district and regional play over the next two weeks, we will see more changes throughout the Top 5.
