Wildcats Offense Erupts in 3rd Quarter to Run Past Cougars

In 8th Grade Middle School basketball action on APSN, the Elkhorn City Cougars made the short trip down U.S. 460 to take on the Valley Wildcats.

Coming into the matchup, the Valley Wildcats were ranked 4th in the APSN Middle School 15th Region Poll, while the Elkhorn City Cougars sat just outside the Top 5, looking to prove they belonged among the region’s elite.

The game opened like two heavyweight fighters trading punches. As expected in a matchup between two strong programs, the first quarter turned into a defensive battle, with Valley holding a slim 5–4 lead at the end of one.

In the second quarter, Valley’s offense came to life. Conner Eversole knocked down a pair of three-pointers and poured in 8 points in the quarter, helping the Wildcats stretch their advantage to 23–10 at halftime.

Valley continued to build momentum in the third quarter, exploding for 21 points to push the lead to 44–18 after three periods of play.

To their credit, Elkhorn City kept fighting in the fourth, outscoring Valley 10–4, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome as the Wildcats secured a 48–28 victory.

Conner Eversole led a balanced Wildcat scoring attack with 15 points, leading all scorers and earning Hall & Jones Funeral Home Player of the Game honors.
