Betsy Layne traveled to Louisa for a tough 58th District matchup against Lawrence County, and—as is typical in district play—the game remained tight from start to finish.
First Half: Defense Sets the Tone
Both teams leaned on their defensive schemes early, keeping scoring at a premium. Lawrence County held a narrow edge at the break, leading 24–19. The Lady Dawgs were paced by Jada Patton, who scored 8 points in the opening half and provided a consistent spark on the offensive end.
Third Quarter Surge
The second half belonged to the Ladycats. Betsy Layne turned up the defensive pressure, forcing turnovers and controlling the tempo. They outscored Lawrence County 18–7 in the third quarter to take a 37–31 lead heading into the final frame.
A major part of that momentum swing came from Jaden Pente, who knocked down two clutch three-pointers to ignite the offense.
Fourth Quarter Finish
Lawrence County battled back in the fourth, tightening the margin and setting up a tense finish. But the Ladycats showed poise down the stretch, making key plays on both ends to secure the 48–45 victory.
Player of the Game
Jaden Pente led the Ladycats with 12 points, 10 of which came in the second half, earning her Surplus Products Player of the Game honors for her timely scoring and leadership.
