On Friday night, the Pike Central Hawks played host to the Magoffin County Hornets in a 15th Region matchup.
Pike Central jumped out to a quick start behind Will Rowe, who scored seven first-quarter points to help the Hawks take an 18–13 lead after one.
Offense was on full display in the second quarter as Magoffin County heated up from beyond the arc. The Hornets knocked down three three-pointers in the period — two from Parker Bowling and one from Evan Reed — on their way to 21 second-quarter points. Pike Central answered with a balanced attack, scoring 19 of their own, led by seven points from Colton Ratliff. The Hawks carried a 37–34 lead into halftime.
Ratliff continued to provide a spark in the third quarter, adding another seven points as Pike Central outscored Magoffin County and stretched the lead to six, 55–49, heading into the fourth.
In the final quarter, Magoffin County’s Walker Russell tried to keep the Hornets within striking distance, scoring all nine of their fourth-quarter points on his way to a game-high 27. However, the Hawks’ offense proved too much, exploding for 22 points in the final frame. Owen Bowman led the charge with 12 fourth-quarter points as Pike Central pulled away for a 77–58 victory.
Bowman finished the night with 24 points and 10 rebounds, earning Surplus Products Player of the Game honors.
