Cougars Rally Late to Stun Bobcats in Junior Newsome Classic Opener

In the opening game of the Junior Newsome Classic, the Betsy Layne Elementary Bobcats played host to the Elkhorn Elementary Cougars. The Bobcats jumped out to an early lead behind the one-two punch of Maddox Meade and Colt West, who combined for 14 of Betsy Layne’s first-half 20 points as they carried a 20–14 advantage into the break.

In the 3rd quarter, the Cougars held their own behind the strong inside presence of Jaxon Slone, and at the end of three quarters Elkhorn City trailed 33–27. The fourth quarter, however, belonged to the Cougars, who caught fire and outscored Betsy Layne 19–10 to mount a thrilling comeback.

With less than 5 seconds remaining, Elkhorn City’s Kady Adkins delivered the decisive blow, draining a clutch three-point basket to seal the victory for the Cougars, 46–43.

Surplus Products Player of the Game

Surplus Products Player of the Game honors go to Elkhorn City’s Jaxon Slone, who powered the Cougars with a game-high 19 points, dominating the paint and sparking the second-half momentum shift that fueled Elkhorn’s comeback victory. Below is a recap of scoring:
