East Ridge rallies past Shelby Valley in district showdown

Earlier tonight, the East Ridge Lady Warriors played host to district rival Shelby Valley in a tightly contested matchup that came down to the final minutes.

Shelby Valley held a slim 13-12 lead after the first quarter behind the scoring of Lindsay Baldwin, who poured in seven points in the opening period. Baldwin’s output matched the seven points scored by East Ridge’s Kourtlee Keene.

In the second quarter, the Lady Cats’ defense rose to the occasion, limiting East Ridge to just five points and taking a 24-17 advantage into halftime. Baldwin continued to pace Shelby Valley with 13 points in the first half.

East Ridge’s offense came alive in the third quarter as the Lady Warriors outscored Shelby Valley 16-7 behind the duo of Keene and Olivia Stanley. Keene scored six points in the period, while Stanley added nine to give East Ridge a narrow two-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The two teams traded baskets throughout the final period, but East Ridge was able to hold on for a 52-50 victory.

Kourtlee Keene led the Lady Warriors with 22 points, six rebounds and six assists, earning Surplus Products Player of the Game honors.

The win move the Lady Warriors to 6-13 on the season. Next up for East Ridge they will play host to the Pikeville Panthers on Monday.

The loss will drop the Lady Cats to 5-12 on the season.
