Lady Black Bears Hold Off Prestonsburg to Claim Victory in Junior Newsome Classic

In the second game of the Junior Newsome Classic, the Harlan County Lady Black Bears made the trip to Betsy Layne to take on the Prestonsburg Lady Blackcats. From the opening tip, both teams were locked in a defensive tussle, battling for every point in a hard-fought contest.

Harlan County carried a narrow 17–16 lead into halftime, powered by the steady play of Taylynn Napier and Jaycee Simpson. Napier led the Lady Black Bears with 7 points in the opening half, while Simpson contributed 6 to help Harlan County hold its slim advantage.

In the second half, the Lady Blackcats made their push behind the efforts of Lakien Stephens, who scored 6 points as Prestonsburg attempted to claw back into the game. Despite their surge, the Lady Black Bears maintained their composure and slowly pulled away down the stretch, securing a 30–26 victory.

Harlan County was led in scoring by Taylynn Napier, who posted a game-high 13 points. Her standout performance earned her the Surplus Products Player of the Game honor. Below is a recap of the scoring:
