Lady Blackcats Offense Erupts to Defeat Lady Bulldogs

In another 58th District matchup, the Lawrence County Lady Bulldogs traveled to Prestonsburg to take on the Prestonsburg Lady Blackcats.

The opening quarter was a back-and-forth battle, with Lawrence County holding a slim 10–8 lead behind senior Maddison Artrip’s five early points. Momentum shifted in the second quarter as the Lady Blackcats erupted offensively, outscoring the Lawrence County 25–9. Prestonsburg connected on four three-point baskets in the period to take a commanding 33–19 lead at halftime.

The second half brought more of the same. Strong third-quarter defense fueled another offensive surge, as the Lady Blackcats poured in 24 more points to put the game out of reach. Prestonsburg forced 33 Lawrence County turnovers on the night, turning defense into offense and cruising to a 71–36 victory.

The Lady Blackcats featured a balanced scoring attack with two players finishing in double figures. Shay Music turned in another great performance, scoring 14 points to earn the Surplus Products Player of the Game Award.

The win moves the Lady Blackcats to 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in District play. The Lady Blackcats will travel to Magoffin to take on the Lady Hornets on Monday.

The loss drops Lawerence County to 1-3 on the season and 0-2 in district play. Next up for Lawrence County they will travel to Lewis County on Tuesday.
