The past week of basketball action across the 15th Region was electric, highlighted by several unbelievable performances. Kylie Kinner of Paintsville and Braxton Keathley of Martin County led the way, earning APSN Players of the Week honors. But the excitement didn’t stop there, as several more standouts made their mark—so we’re proud to present our Next Up Series.

In both Phelps and Pikeville, two athletes stood out among the region’s best.

Girls Spotlight

On the girls’ side, Phelps senior Caleigh McCoy led the Hornets to a 1–2 record despite a heartbreaking loss to June Buchanan. McCoy was dominant throughout the week, averaging 22.6 points per game over a three-game stretch.

Meanwhile in Pikeville, senior guard Nicole Lin guided the Panthers to a perfect 2–0 week. Lin scored 18 points against Central–Wise, then capped off the week by pouring in 24 points in the Surplus Products Game of the Week, broadcast right here on APSN.

Boys Spotlight

For the boys, Phelps center Tyler Weddington continued his double-double assault on anyone in his path. On Tuesday, Weddington posted 30 points and 10 rebounds in a tough loss to Shelby Valley. He followed that up on Thursday with another 30-point performance, this time grabbing 20 rebounds against Floyd Central. To close the week on Friday, the Phelps big man added 22 points and 12 rebounds. Weddington finished the week averaging an impressive 27.3 points and 14 rebounds per game.

Rounding out the Next Up list is Pikeville senior Carter Parsons, who helped lead the Panthers to a 2–0 week, keeping them undefeated on the young season. Parsons scored 20 points in a narrow win over Lawrence County, then erupted for a season-high 29 points against Moore on Saturday. He averaged 24.5 points per game for the week.

With performances like these, it’s easy to see why excitement continues to build around basketball in the 15th Region.
