n a super competitive game, we saw the Phelps JV Hornets take on the young Betsy Layne squad in JV action at the JR Newsome Classic yesterday at Betsy Layne.
Phelps jumped out to a 23–21 halftime lead behind 10 big points from Brandon Howard. Betsy Layne’s big man dominated the paint in the first half with 10 points of his own, keeping the Bobcats well within striking distance.
The second half brought even more great basketball as Phelps guard David Adkins caught fire, scoring 16 of his team-high 18 points after intermission. Adkins connected on five three-pointers in the half, pushing the Hornets ahead as they squeaked out a 44–40 victory. His explosive performance earned him the Surplus Products Player of the Game award.
