Shelby Valley Lady Cats defeat Phelps to advance in ALL A Tournament

In today’s All A Classic first-round matchup, the Shelby Valley Ladycats faced off against the Phelps Lady Hornets.

The game opened with a low-scoring first half, as Shelby Valley took a 20–10 lead into halftime. The Ladycats got a major spark off the bench from 7th grader Elin Bartley, who led the team in first-half scoring with 8 points. Bartley knocked down two clutch three-pointers in the second quarter, helping Shelby Valley build its halftime advantage.

Phelps came out strong in the third quarter, as their offense found its rhythm. The Lady Hornets outscored Shelby Valley 21–12 in the period, cutting the Ladycats’ lead to just two points heading into the fourth quarter. Kaylyn Slone paced Phelps with 8 points in the third, finishing the game with a team-high 14 points.

In the final quarter, Shelby Valley regained control at the free-throw line. The Ladycats went an impressive 9-of-11 from the foul line, pulling away late to secure a 53–43 victory and advance in the tournament.

The Lady cats were led in scoring once again by Kailey Bowersock. Bowersock scored a game high 21 points to earn Player of the game honors.

The win will move the Lady Cats to 4-7 on the season. The Lady Cats will advance to take on the Pikeville Lady Panthers on January 9th at 6:00 PM.

The loss drops the Lady Hornets to 5-7 on the year. The Lady Hornets will travel to Elliott County on Tuesday January 6th.
